The Secrets of reciting Surah Ikhlas abundantly

by Muhammad Sajad Ali
Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem
Surah Ikhlas - Qul huwallaahu ahad Allahus samad Lam yalid wa lam yuulad Wa lamyakun lahuuu kufuwan ahad
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Say: He is Allah, the One. He is Allah, the Eternal, Who was never born, nor ever gave birth. The One beyond compare.
I would like to explain the great power and benefits of reciting Surah Ikhlas, 1, 3,10,11, 25 100, 200 and 1000 times. And I’m hoping this will instill determination and Himmah-yearning to recite Surah Ikhlas, more or at least show its appreciation and its hidden secrets which are over seen by many a reciter.
The great reward of the one who increases in reciting Surah Ikhlas abundantly daily:
Reciting Surah Ikhlas is a means of Entering Paradise, Allah creates Houses in Paradise for the recitor, it is a means of attaining the love of Allah, Increasing of ones Rizq and reciting Surah Ikhlas when entering ones house is that poverty will be eradicated, it is a means of forgiveness of ones sins, it is a means of increasing the presence of the angels at the time of death. Reciting Surah Ikhlas 10 times at the end of every Fard-compulsory prayer will allow one to enter paradise from any of its Gates.

Know that increasing recitation of Surah Ikhlas is a means of attaining the love of Allah and when Allah loves you he makes Jannah fard upon you or and makes you one of his saints. As whomever Loves Surah Ikhlas, Allah loves them. There is a Hadith were a Sahabah that kept on reciting Surah Iklas in every ra'kah due to his love of it and the Holy Prophet (s) asked the man why he kept on reciting it in every rakah, he replied, 'because it contains the attributes of the most compassionate and i love reading it. The Holy Prophet (s) then said: 'informed him that Allah loves him.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 1 time will get the reward equal to 10 times the number of people who have believed in the Islamic teachings.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 1 time compared to one third of complete Quran Recitation. Reciting it once is a means of blessings for the reciter.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 2 times, the blessings are showered upon the children of the reciter.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 3 times, brings blessings on the entire family of the reciter and compared to complete Quran Recitation.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 11 times the reciter will have palaces built for him in Jannah.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 100 times, all his sins for the past 25 years are forgiven(minor sins), constant recitation of this Surah will help keep the heart sincere inshallah, and Allah will also increase ur Rizq, to gain abundant wealth inshAllah. (except the sins of killing an innocent person or usurping the property of people).

Recite Ikhlas 100 Times and Enter Paradise to Your Right.
Anas (R) has reported the saying of Rasulallah(S) that, "If anyone who is about to sleep on his bed lies on his right side, then recited Al-Ikhlas 100 times, Allah will say to him on the Day of the resurrection, 'My slave, enter Paradise to your right side.'" (Tirmidhi)

Reciting Surah Ikhlas recited 200 times daily gets forgiveness of 50 years of sins-(minor); but, if he has to pay loan to anyone, that will not be forgiven." and Allah will grant him 1500 Rewards (At-Tirmidhi and Darami)
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 1,000 times will not die unless he sees his place in Jannah.
“Sins of that who recites 1,000 Ikhlas with basmala are forgiven and his dua (pray) is accepted.”
“Whoever recites Surah Ikhlas 1,000 times between the afternoon and evening on the day of Arafa, Allah bestowes him whatever he wishes.”
Recites Surah Ikhlas 100,000 times Allah will set him free!
It was narrated by anas that the Holy Prophet (s) said: "whoever reads Recites Surah Ikhlas 100,00 times would have bought himself from Allah, and a caller from Allah will announce in heaven and on earth: 'verily, so-and-so has been set free by Allah, so whoever owes him anything, let him claim it from Allah.'"

Surah Ikhlas and 'The kings of mankind'
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with) The Prophet (s) said “on the day of resurrection Allah will grasp the entire earth by His Hand and shall roll up the heaven with His right Hand and say “I am the king, where are the kings of the Earth?” (Sahih Al Bukhari) This hadith refers to the ayah in Surah Ikhlas which is: “The king of mankind”.

Time frame to read 100 times Surah Ikhlas about 4/5 minutes and 1,000 times Surah Ikhlas from 20/30mins to upto an hour depending on speeding thats me-(the author) others will need more time it depends on how you acustom yourself as beginners it can take up to an hour to recite 100 but someone whose is used to reciting and is fluent and after pratice and time will speed up.
Some notes about Surah Ikhlas and One Third of Quran
The meaning of one third of Quran, Allah has divided the Qur’an into three parts: “Say: he is Allah, the one and only” is one of these parts.

The meaning of this is that Allah sent the Qur’an in three parts:
A third of it is comprised of legal rulings,

A third is comprised of exhortations of promises and warnings,

and a third is comprised of discussing Allah’s names and attributes.
(Surah Ikhlas)
This chapter Surah Al-Ikhlas brings together within it those names and attributes.
"Allah's Hadra are three. His Essence, His Actions, and Attributes. This Surah is the only Surah of Quran that is exclusive to Allah's Essence. and this is why it is considered 1/3 of the Quran"- from Shaykh al Islam Ibrahim Niasse

And the sufis say 'Whoever recites this surah, must obtain the tajalli-(manifestation or Divine lights) of the two Names of Glory, al-Ahad (the One), and as-Samad (the Eternal). Anyone who reads it, must get a portion of this tajalli-(manifestation or lights)'.
Tajalli-(manifestation), which has almost the same meaning as showing itself, display, and appearance, in the language of Sufism means being favored with God's special gifts. It also denotes that the Divine mysteries have become apparent in the heart of the seeker by means of the light of knowledge of God Almighty. Every traveler to the Truth can feel this favor in the conscience according to capacity and station.
Surah Al-Ikhlas is 112th chapter of the Qur’an, and is said to be one of the earliest revelations that the Holy Prophet Muhammad received from archangel Gabriel.
The Arabic root of the word ikhlas is kh-l-s which means to be purified or refined. The very concept of refining and purifying signifies the burning away of all impurities, leaving nothing but the very essence of that which was sought, which, in this case, is Allah.
Such a purification is the burning away of all of the worldly misunderstandings, concerns and desires that separate us from the One; the One and Only upon whom we depend, the One and Only who is our foundation rock, the Eternal One and Only.
People have issues with learning Sunni Aqidah-belief, simply have to read Surah Ikhlas.

So what is our Aqidah-belief and what is the brenchmark, as to what we can say or what we shouldn't say or believe about Allah is all in Surah Ikhlas; meaning that 'He is Allah, the Eternal, Who was never born, nor ever gave birth. The One beyond compare', and the last part is what we need to remember, 'The One beyond compare', meaning whatever you try to compare him to, that isn't him simply. And this stops all silly arguments about were is Allah, can Allah lie or not and other silly questions and confusions, Surah lkhas stops all confusions about Allah, with 'The One beyond compare'. So the brenchmark is Allah is 'beyond compare' and that is who Allah is, '..the Eternal, Who was never born, nor ever gave birth.'

Surah Ikhlas mentions two names of Allah which together indicate all the Attributes of perfection. They are not mentioned in any other verse: “al-Ahad” and “al-Samad.” These two names indicate the oneness of the Sacred Being who possesses all the attributes of perfection.
Al-Ahad indicates the singularity of existence that cannot be shared by another entity.
Al-Samad implies all attributes of perfection. It means: “the One whose dignity and sovereignty reaches the extent where all other things in existence depend on for all their needs.” In other words, all needs are brought before Him. This attribute cannot be for other than the One who truly possesses complete perfection in al qualities. This cannot apply to anyone other than Allah. He is al-Ahad and al-Samad. And He 'Who was never born, nor ever gave birth.'The One beyond compare'.

This explanation makes clear that these two names possess a comprehensiveness in their indication of Allah and His attributes that are not found in any other names. And these names are not mentioned in any other chapter of the Qur’an. This shows the special value of this chapter, and why it is regarded as a third of the Qur’an.

Some Notes:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites Qul huwa Allaahu ahad ten times, Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Sahih al-Jami’ al-Saghir, 6472).
The Holy Prophet (s) once advised a poor person to always say ‘salaam’ when entering his house, even if there was nobody there, and then Recitie Surah Ikhlas. After a little while, the man became abundantly wealthy.
"whoever reads Surah Ikhlas when he enters his house, poverty will be eradicated from the family of that household and neighbours."
It is makruh to recite this surah in one breath. This surah has numerous other benefits and is a cure for many ailments. It should be recited when travelling or when facing a tyrant ruler.
Reciting Surah Ikhlas 10 times at the end of every Fard-compulsory prayer will enter paradise from any of its Gates. "whoever accomplishes three things with a sound iman will enter paradise from any of its Gates, and will be married to the pure wives of his choice. He who forgives a murderer of kin; he who settles debts on another person secretly; and he who recites 10 times after every Fard-compulsory prayer Surah Ikhlas." Abu Bakr said: "or even doing any of these, O Messenger of Allah?" the Holy Prophet (s) then said: "or one of them."

Sleep / Lunch Break (Qailulah): Healthy And Sunnah

Kebiaasaan might we do this is the sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, God willing we will be rewarded if we meniatkannya. As if the mere habit it is not rewarding. This is the importance of science, if we do not know this, then we are merely napping -mata of habit and not be rewarded.
In addition to sleep / rest during (qailulah) also includes a healthy habit as long as it is not excessive, will refresh the body and helps us to wake up the night prayer.
Qailulah not have to sleep, including a lunch break qailulah
In Arabic Dictionary Lisanul described qailulah meaning in language,
القيلولة نومة نصف النهار
"Qailulah is sleeping in mid-afternoon" [1]
Because translated qailulah with "nap" so many who thought qailulah should have to sleep. True, qailulah not necessarily have to sleep, rest during the day is included qailulah.
Ash-San'ani rahimahullah said,
والقيلولة: الاستراحة نصف النهار, وإن لم يكن معها نوم
"Qailulah is a break in the middle of the afternoon, although not sleep." [2]
When is it Time qailulah
There is a time when scholars deviation qailulah, whether before midday or after midday or both.
Syarbini rahimahullah said,
هي النوم قبل الزوال
"Sleep before zawal (dzhur time)"
Al-Munawi rahimahullah said,
القيلولة: النوم وسط النهار عند الزوال وما قاربه من قبل أو بعد
"Qailulah was sleeping in the middle of the afternoon when zawal or near the time of zawal before or since."
Al-Badri Al-Aini said,
القيلولة معناها النوم في الظهيرة
"Qailulah meaning: sleep at dhuzur (billowy noon)." [3]
And it rajih is qailulah time after zawal (midday) as hadith.
عن سهل بن سعد رضي الله عنه قال: ما كنا نقيل ولا نتغذى إلا بعد الجمعة في عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم. واللفظ لمسلم.
Sahl bin Sa'd of something from 'anhu said,
"Our (former) is not doing qailulah and eat except after Friday prayers at the time of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam." [4]
Anas bin Malik something from 'anhu said,
كانوا يجمعون ثم يقيلون
"They (the Companions) used to perform the Friday prayers, then lunch break (qailulah)." [5]
Sunnah qailulah
Napping is mentioned in the Qur'an. Allaah says,
ومن آياته منامكم بالليل والنهار وابتغاؤكم من فضله إن في ذلك لآيات لقوم يسمعون
"And among His signs is your sleep him at night and during the day, and your seeking of the bounty-Lo! In this is truly there are signs for a people who listen" (Ar-Rum: 23 )
Likewise, commanded by the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, he said,
قيلوا فإن الشياطين لا تقيل
"Qailulah-lah (sianglah break) you, the real demons never nap." [6]
Likewise, the actions of the companions.
ربما قعد على باب ابن مسعود رجال من قريش, فإذا فاء الفيء قال: قوموا فما بقي فهو للشيطان. ثم لا يمر على أحد إلا أقامه
"Once upon a time there were people of Quraish were sitting in front of the door Ibn Mas'ud. When midday, Ibn Mas'ud said, "Get up you (for the lunch break), that remains is part of the devil." Then it is not passing one except Umar told him to get up. " [7]
In another narration,
كان عمر z يمر بنا نصف النهار -أو قريبا منه - فيقول: قوموا فقيلوا, فما بقي فللشيطان
"Historically, 'Umar when passing us in the middle of the day or close to noon saying," Get up you guys! Sianglah break! What remains to be a part of Satan. " [8]
Al-khalal said,
قال الخلال استحباب القائلة نصف النهار قال عبد الله كان أبي ينام نصف النهار شتاء كان أو صيفا لا يدعها
"Disunnahkan qailulah in mid-afternoon, Abdullah (bin Ahmad) said," My father was napping in the summer and cold, he did not leave. " [9]
The benefits of napping
Naps are very useful and feels for those who are accustomed to. Feel fresh if waking from a nap that although briefly but quality.
Here's a nap for health benefits:
1. Improve memory A 2008 study found that during a 45-minute nap can help improve memory. This increase occurred in a phase of slow-wave sleep or short-wave sleep, as usually happens when a nap.
Increased brain activity during sleep is also believed to be beneficial to learn a foreign language. Words or new terms will be easier to remember if often played while sleeping.
2. Improving productivity Nap can protect the brain from the information processing that occurs in excess and help consolidate the newly learned information. This in turn will increase concentration and productivity in the workplace. In fact, previous studies find a nap can lower blood pressure.
3. Treating insomnia Research has found that people who nap for 15 minutes to feel more alert and less sleepy, even when the lack of sleep the previous night.
The effect can indeed vary in each individual, but a study in 2011 confirms a nap makes insomniacs become more fit for the total downtime is becoming longer.
4. Reduce stress Want to cut as much as half the stress hormone cortisol? Research shows that stress hormones dramatically decreased after a nap, especially if overnight sleep less soundly.
A German study found that when a group of pilots slept less than 7 hours overnight before serving, cortisol levels increased significantly and last for 2 days. But when successfully nap for a while, cortisol levels decreased by half.
5. Preventing heart disease Short nap for 20-40 minutes can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke. This conclusion is based on research conducted by researchers Greece.
Researchers found that people who are at least 30-minute nap for 3 times a week can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 37 percent. According to this study, healthy nap should be between 1-3 o'clock noon for no more than 45 minutes. If excess, it causes woke up with 'heavy head'. [10]
Thus, may be useful.
Alhamdulillahilladzi bi ni'matihi tatimmush sholihaat, sallallaahu wa 'ala Muhammad wa Alihi' ala alihi shohbihi wa wa sallam.

Using Miswak in the Masjid – Permanent Committee

Q: I hear people saying that using Miswak (tooth-cleansing stick) in the Masjid is impermissible. Is this true?
A: Using the Miswak is an affirmed act of Sunnah. It should be used when necessary upon performing Wudu' (ablution), Salah, reciting the Qur'an, changing the mouth smell, etc.
It may be used inside or outside the Masjid, as no text supports the prohibition of using it inside the Masjid when necessary. Moreover, it finds further support in the general meaning of the following Hadith, “Were it not for the fear that it might be hard for my Ummah (nation), I would have ordered them to use Miswak for every Salah.” [1]
However, a person should be careful not to overdo the Miswak in the Masjid lest they should vomit or bleed in the Masjid.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Benefits of Dates Fruit

Muslims generally break their fast by eating dates. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reported to have said: "if anyone of you is fasting, let him break his fast with dates. In case he does not have them, then with water. Verily water is a purifier."

The Prophet used to break his fast by eating some dates before offering Maghrib prayer, and if ripe dates were not available, he used to substitute them with some dried grapes. When they too were not available, he used to have a few sips of water, according to some reports.

Hadith from our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

(1) The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Break your fast by eating dates as it is purifying.” (Narrated by Ahmad)

(2) The Prophet (PBUH) said: “ Whoever finds dates should break his fast with them and the one who does not should break his fast with water because it is pure”

Kahjoor (Dates Fruit)
The Prophet (Peace & blessings of Allah be on him) said:

مَنْ تََصَبَّحَ بِسَبْعِ تَمَرَاتٍ مِنْ تَمْرِ الْعَالِيَةِ "اَلْمَدِينَةِ الْمُنَوَّرَة" لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ سُمٌّ وَلاَ سِحْرٌ. (صحيح البخاري)
(Whoever eats seven date fruits of the high land “Medina Munawwarah” in the morning, no poison or sorcery shall hurt him that day.)

The Prophet (Pbuh) used to combine dates with bread sometimes. At other times he mixed ripe dates with cucumber, or dates combined with ghee. He used to take all varieties of dates, but he preferred the variety called Ajwah.

Sayyidah Ayisha, (R.A.) wife of Prophet (Pbuh), used to prescribe dates for those suffering from giddiness.

Sayyidah Mariam (the Virgin Mary) mother of Jesus (Pbuh) had dates as her food when she felt labour pains and during confinement.

In Quran, Surah Maryam (19), Verse number 23 ..

(1) In the Qur’an when Maryam(as) the mother of Prophet Jesus(as) was giving birth to him and she was experiencing pain, she was told to: ” Shake the trunk of the palm towards you and fresh, ripe dates will drop down onto you.”

(2) And in the earth are tracts (diverse though) neighboring, and gardens of vines and fields sown with corn, and palm trees – growing out of single roots or otherwise: watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who understand! (Qur’an, 13:4)

Allah the Almighty says in Holy Quran:

وَهُزِّىۤ إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ ٱلنَّخْلَةِ تُسَاقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَباً جَنِيّاً * فَكُلِي وَٱشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْناً ....... (مريم 25 ،26)
(Shake also to thee the palm-trunk, and there shall come tumbling upon thee dates fresh and ripe. Eat therefore, and drink, and be comforted;)

And thereby He brings forth for you crops, and olives, and palms, and vines, and all kinds of fruit. Surely in that is a sign for a people who reflect.)

وَزَيْتُوناً وَنَخْلاً ) سورة عبس 29 ( (And olive trees and date-palms)

Brief importance of Sadaqa

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the Zaalimoon (wrongdoers)”
[al-Baqarah 2:254]

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allaah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allaah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allaah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower.
262. Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allaah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”

[al-Baqarah 2:261-262]
“O you who believe! Spend of the good things which you have (legally) earned, and of that which We have produced from the earth for you, and do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it, (though) you would not accept it save if you close your eyes and tolerate therein. And know that Allaah is Rich (Free of all needs), and Worthy of all praise”
[al-Baqarah 2:267]

“Believe in Allaah and His Messenger (Muhammad), and spend of that whereof He has made you trustees. And such of you as believe and spend (in Allaah’s way), theirs will be a great reward”
[al-Hadeed 57:7]

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives charity equal to a date from good (halal) earnings – for Allaah does not accept anything but that which is good – Allaah will take it in His right hand and tend it for the one who gave it as any one of you tends his foal, until it becomes like a mountain.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1344; Muslim, 1014.
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which the people get up but two angels come down and one of them says, ‘O Allaah, give in compensation to the one who spends (in charity),’ and the other says, ‘O Allaah, destroy the one who withholds.’”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1374; Muslim, 1010.
It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out – on Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha – to the prayer place, and when he had finished (the prayer) he preached to the people and enjoined them to give charity. He said, “O people, give in charity!” Then he went over to the women and said, “O women, give in charity for I have seen that you are the majority of the people of Hell.” When he went home, Zaynab the wife of Ibn Mas’ood came seeking permission to see him. It was said, “O Messenger of Allaah, here is Zaynab.” He said, “Which Zaynab?” It was said, “The wife of Ibn Mas’ood.” He said, “Yes, let her in.” So they let her in and she said, “O Prophet of Allaah, today you enjoined charity, and I have some jewellery which I wanted to give in charity, but Ibn Mas’ood claims that he and his child have more right to receive it in charity.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Give it in charity to Ibn Mas’ood, for your husband and your child have the most right that you should give it to them in charity.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1393; Muslim, 80.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah said: ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5073; Muslim, 993.
And Allaah is the Source of strength.

Fast 7-Step Cure for Depression by Dr. Bilal Philips

This is Dr. Bilal Philips‘s “Fast” cure for depression.
Do a complete focused fast on Mondays and Thursdays, and do the following:
1) Get up and read from the Quran in Arabic and English – “Inna fee Khalqis samaawati wal Ard” (Surat Aali Imraan, 3:191-end) and crying.
2) Make a focused wudu’ and pray Tahajjud, followed by:
3) a very light Suhoor (brown bread, olives and extra virgin olive oil + 2 table spoons full of canned tuna or one egg) followed by:
4) a day of focused sunnah and Fard prayers.
5) Utilize throughout the day any of the Prophetic du’aas requesting ease like:

“Allahumma laa sahla illaa maa ja’altahu sahlaa, wa anta taj’alus sa’ba in shi’ta sahlaa.”
(O Allah, nothing is easy except what you make easy, and You can make what is difficult easy if You wish)

As well as the other du’aas for depression like: Allaahumma rahmataka arjoo falaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata ‘ayn. wa aslih lee sha’nee kullah. Laa ilaaha illaa Ant. (O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so don’t leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blinking of an eye. And rectify all of my affairs for me. Nothing has the right to be worshipped except You). – See Hisnul Muslim – the Muslim Fortress – for more.
6) Then break the fast with 3 dates and a glass of water and pray Maghrib;
7) Have a light Iftaar followed by a focused Ishaa prayer.
The depression should begin to lift, if not go altogether from the very first day of the Fast cure. It will work if you do it believing with all your heart, strongly that this Prophetic formula WORKS and the degree to which it does work depends on how seriously you take it and apply it.

Amazing Facts...About Honeybees

Amazing Facts...About Honeybees

1. Did you know that bees have 4 wings?
2. The honeybee's wings stroke 11,400 times per minute, thus making their distinctive buzz.
3. A bee flies at a rate of about 12 miles per hour.
4. How many eyes does a honeybee have? Five.
5. The queen bee is the busiest in the summer months, when the hive needs to be at its maximum strength. She will lay about 1,000 to 1,500 eggs per day.
6. In the cold winter months, bees will leave the hive only to take a short cleansing flight. They are fastidious about the cleanliness of their hive.
7. Honeybees do not die out over the winter. They feed on the honey they collected during the warmer months and patiently wait for spring. They form a tight cluster in their hive to keep the queen and themselves warm.
8. It takes 35 pounds of honey to provide enough energy for a small colony of bees to survive the winter.
9. Honeybee colonies have unique odors that members flash like identification cards at the hive's front door. All the individual bees in a colony smell enough alike so that the guard bees can identify them.

Amazing Facts...About The Work of the Honeybee

1. The honeybee is not born knowing how to make honey; the younger bees are taught by the more experienced ones.
2. A honeybee visits between 50 and 100 flowers during one collection flight from the hive.
3. In order to produce 1 pound of honey, 2 million flowers must be visited.
4. A hive of bees must fly 55,000 miles to produce a pound of honey.
5. One bee colony can produce 60 to 100 pounds of honey per year.
6. An average worker bee makes only about 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
7. At the peak of the honey-gathering season, a strong, healthy hive will have a population of approximately 50,000 bees.
8. It would take approximately 1 ounce of honey to fuel a bee's flight around the world.
9. Honey is the primary food source for the bee. The reason honeybees are so busy collecting nectar from flowers and blossoms is to make sufficient food stores for their colony over the winter months. The nectar is converted to honey by the honeybee and stored in the wax honeycomb.

Amazing Facts...About Honey and Your Health

1. Honey contains vitamins and antioxidants, but is fat free, cholesterol free and sodium free!
2. One antioxidant called "pinocembrin" is only found in honey.
3. Honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water.
4. Honey has the ability to attract and absorb moisture, which makes it remarkably soothing for minor burns and helps to prevent scarring.
5. Honey speeds the healing of open wounds and also combats infection.
6. As recently as the First World War, honey was being mixed with cod liver oil to dress wounds on the battlefield.
7. Modern science now acknowledges honey as an anti-microbial agent, which means it deters the growth of certain types of bacteria, yeast and molds.
8. Honey and beeswax form the basics of many skin creams, lip-balms, and hand lotions.
9. According to Dr. Paul Gold, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, "people remember things much better after they've consumed glucose, a form of sugar found in honey."
10. Honey is nature's energy booster! It provides a concentrated energy source that helps prevent fatigue and can boost athletic performance.
11. Recent studies have proven that athletes who took some honey before and after competing recovered more quickly than those who did not.
12. Honey supplies 2 stages of energy. The glucose in honey is absorbed by the body quickly and gives an immediate energy boost. The fructose is absorbed more slowly providing sustained energy.

*******************
More than 1,400 years ago Allah and His messenger sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam (peace be upon him), told us that honey can heal a variety of medicinal problems.

Allah says in the Qur'an, "And the lord inspired the bee, saying: Take your habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect. Then, eat of all fruits and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)'. There comes forth from their bellies a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily in this is indeed a sign for people who think." [Qur'an 16:68-69]

The Prophet, sallallahu aleyhe wa sallam (peace be upon him), has also told us of the healing found within honey for a variety of medical problems, including stomach ailments. One hadeeth, reported by Bukhari, states that a man came to the Prophet , sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam (peace be upon him), because his brother had a stomach disorder. The Prophet sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam said "Let him drink honey." The man returned a second time and again the Prophet , sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam (peace be upon him), responded again, "Let him drink honey." The man returned again, and said "I have done that." The Prophet sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam then responded, "Allah has said the truth, but your brother's stomach has told a lie. Let him drink honey." He drank it and was cured.

Tirmizi, Ibn Majah and Baihaqi also reported that the Prophet, sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam (peace be upon him), said, "Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Qur'an."

Dental Health and the Miswak

By Laylah Al-Husaini

"Good dental health is more than the absence of disease or tooth decay in your mouth," says David Kennedy, DDS and author of How to Save Your Teeth (Kennedy, pg.3). "It is an integral part of your well being. People with exceptionally healthy bodies usually have healthy teeth and gums." Teeth are also a blessing from Allah. It is said that, "If the eyes are a window to the soul then the mouth is the doorway to the body" (Stay, p.5).

Teeth play an important function in the digestive process. They are important in helping people to speak and in upholding one's facial structure. Without teeth, nobody would be able to say anything comprehendible, if at all. Without teeth you would have to swallow your food without being able to chew it first, which is unhealthy for the digestive system.

However, despite their important functions, teeth are the least cared for part of the body. But, cleaning one's teeth does not have to be complicated. Eating unprocessed food and staying away from sugary sweets are simple keys to good dental health.

Caries, or dental decay, is the most common disease affecting the teeth. People eating large amounts of processed foods or sweets and then forgetting - or not wanting - to brush their teeth afterwards, end up causing easily avoidable decaying of the teeth. While chewing food, small pieces tend to become stuck to the surface the teeth, as well as in between them. Leaving those pieces there for a long period of time causes the food to go bad, which in turn attracts bacteria that dig holes in the teeth. Most people do not realize the damage that is being done until the tooth is already decayed and must be pulled out by a dentist.

In addition, poor dental health also leads to bad breath and many other diseases, including malocclusion, periodontal diseases or even oral cancer.

David Kennedy documents that the devastating effects of sweet-rich diets were documented as early as 1938. In many industrialized countries, dental decay is becoming less common due to renewed awareness and efforts towards dental health. However, in the developing world, where previously many people were free of dental decay, it is becoming increasingly common (Kennedy, pg. 10).

Dr. Weston Price, a dentist, set out on a world expedition to discover why, as a general rule, societies untouched by modern civilization had excellent teeth, whereas civilized societies had comparatively poor teeth. He compiled a photographic record of his travels and concluded that diet - not poor brushing habits, was the culprit (Kennedy, p.2). However, proper care of the teeth was the second most influential factor in people with healthy teeth.

According to researchers, the people with the best teeth are not those who have the fanciest sonic toothbrushes - but those who use their toothbrushes regularly and after each snack and meal. In fact, ancient cultures and developing nations lacked the technology to create such machines for the teeth, yet there have always been reliable ways to clean them.

American Indians used fresh bark from the prickly ash tree to clean their teeth. The sap from this tree kills bacteria. Mojave Desert Indians used twigs from the cresote bush and rural villagers in India used the neem tree.

Muslims use what is called a miswak. A miswak, or siwak, is a small stick with which the teeth are rubbed and cleaned. The end is shaped into a brush through biting or chewing, which serve to separate the fibers and release the healing herbal powers of the twig. Some advantages of the miswak are that is does not require toothpaste, water or a special area to use it, and may be easily carried in one's purse or pocket. It is also disposable and biodegradable - therefore, it is the ultimate environmentally safe toothbrush. Some people even believe it works better than a toothbrush.

Nevertheless, a more compelling reason to use the miswak is that it is Sunnah to do so. Abu Hurairah reported that Prophet Mohammad (saws) said, "Were it not that I might overburden believers, I would have ordered them to use the miswak at every prayer" (Imam Muslim, Vol. 1).

According to researchers it is this regular cleaning of the teeth, along with a proper diet, that makes the difference between healthy and unhealthy teeth. Keeping your teeth clean is as important Islamically as it is medically. It is as difficult to envision speaking to Allah (through prayer) with bad breath and dirty teeth as it is to envision speaking to a friend when you are suffering from bad breath and dirty teeth. The Prophet himself (saws), used to use the miswak before every prayer (Sahih Muslim, Vol.1). Modern science suggests we would do well to follow his example.
